This piece is a great find, and one that is becoming more rarer over the years, especially in this condition.
This is a large well-done pottery ashtray from the famous manufacturers The Hyde Park Company. They are more well-known for their metal work, particularly with bronzing baby shoes, but they did dabble in a wide variety of pottery ashtrays. Most were farmed out to contractors such as Roseville, Haeger and Coors Pottery. This one does not have the “Line” in the embossing on the backside, so it must be either of the last two names. It measures 11 3/8″ across, 8 3/4″ wide and 2″ high to the monogram inset, the letter F. On the bottom is embossed “THE HYDE PARK NO. 1960 MADE IN U.S.A.” There are only two very tiny chiggerbites on the left edge, common for these pottery items, but otherwise is in excellent condition. One thing to note is that the Hyde Park company was based in New York, in Hyde Park, a well-loved homeplace of Franklin D. Roosevelt. Who knows, did the letter F here stand for Franklin?
