Here is an excellent find, just right for you researchers and genealogy buffs out there. This is the May 22, 1941 issue of the Maroonews, a school newspaper from Ridgway, Pennsylvania.
It features information on the upcoming festivities, from the Jr High Prom to the graduation of the Seniors.
It measures 8 1/2 by 11 inches per page, and has two sheets altogether, making 8 pages total, on old folded yellowed newsprint paper.
There are a lot of chats and notes about so many students and teachers. One particularly interesting, and very ironic item is a poem about Marie Smith, who apparently had a loved one in the Army at the time, and was being released. It reads… “The War is over, The Army is free, Carl is home, and so is Marie.” Please note that less than 7 months later Pearl Harbor was bombed, and World War II started for the United States.
